Imagine your grandchildren sitting down for a real conversation with the minds that shaped our era.
Not through dusty quotes in books or faded photos on a shelf — but through living dialogue. They ask questions, hear stories in that familiar voice, feel the personality, the quirks, the wisdom… and even the frustrations.
That’s the profound long-term promise of digital souls: preserving not just facts, but the full essence of a person, their wisdom, personality, values, and unique perspective — so future generations can truly know them.
This vision hit me hard because of my own grandfather.
He passed away long before I was born. His children remembered him, of course, but I ended up knowing him more intimately than many of them ever did. Why? Because I’m naturally curious. One day I opened an old box and discovered his personal diary.
Page after page, he had quietly recorded his life:
-The foods he loved most (he preferred fish over meat, always with plenty of vegetables).
-His evening routines and favorite places.
-The games he enjoyed — especially draft.
-His strict rules: meals never later than 6pm, because he hated eating late and despised repeating himself.
-His deep faith as a devoted Christian, his life as a respected farmer with an animal farm (cows and sheep), and his loyal dog named Bingo.
-Even the small quarrels with my grandmother, and the reasons behind his anger.
The most haunting entry was his last:
“I’m going out to look for my granddaughter… I believe she’ll be playing around RCM primary school.” That was the end. He had an accident on the way and never returned.
Reading those words, I felt an ache mixed with wonder. What if we could preserve people so completely that no future grandchild would have to wonder who their ancestor really was?
That moment planted a seed in me: What if there was an app called “Flashback” a simple, beautiful place where anyone could record their daily life? Their likes and dislikes, routines, stories, values, even the mundane details that make us human. Not for clout or content, but as a deliberate gift to the unborn generations. A living archive of who we truly were.
Imagine a young Donald Trump (or any leader) being able to sit down and converse with a digital Herbert Hoover — seeing not just policies, but how he thought, what moved him, the tone of his voice, the way he carried the weight of 1929–1933. Or a future child chatting with their great-grandfather about why he never liked “dull people,” why he insisted on dinner by 6pm, or the joy he found farming at dawn
I lacked the resources to build it back then, so I’m sharing the idea openly. If someone runs with it and creates something beautiful, that’s enough for me. The world needs this more than any one person needs credit.
