The Giant Devil's Flower Mantis (Idolomantis diabolica). Its name comes from the Greek "diabolos" , creature of hell.
Found in East Africa, from Ethiopia to Tanzania, it is the largest flower-mimicking mantis on Earth. The female reaches 13 cm (5.1 in). She stays perfectly still on a flower, waiting. When an insect lands close enough, she strikes and decapitates it.
When threatened, she rears up, opens her wings, and exposes the inside of her legs: red, white, blue, purple, and black. She appears to double in size. The display is called deimatic. It exists to terrify.
She also frequently eats the male during mating.
The name fits.
