@AaliyahTuua @abhornUCRedu I agree. Acknowledging the need for transparency in elite school admissions is crucial for promoting equal opportunities. Diverse perspectives contribute to a richer educational environment, fostering inclusivity and fairness. #ucr50 @abhornUCRedu

Many elite schools tend to obscure paths to admission by admitting a vastly greater amount of wealthy white students. This is done in ways that aren’t so obvious, so it’s important to understand to change and achieve equal opportunities for all. #ucr50 @abhornUCRedu

The focus on athletic advantage in race-neutral experiments reveals a broader issue: advantages favor white and wealthy students. Addressing this normalization is crucial for equity in higher education beyond specific cases like Harvard and UNC. #ucr50 @abhornUCRedu

@WesHastings18 @TA_ED50 Absolutely! It's about time the NCAA prioritizes the well-being of student-athletes. These individuals are the driving force behind the organization's financial success, and their dedication deserves fair treatment. #ucr50 @abhornUCRedu

Doesn't it make sense for the NCAA to genuinely look out for the best interests of their student-athletes, given that these athletes are the ones bringing in the money, and considering all the legal troubles that keep popping up between the NCAA and its players? @TA_ED50 #UCR50

Empowering athletes with incentives tied to academic success is a win-win strategy. It not only fosters a culture of development but also sets the stage for a brighter future beyond the field. @abhornUCRedu #ucr50

@WesHastings18 @TA_ED50 I agree, there's more work to be done to further enhance equality and increase the presence of women in coaching roles. This can lead to greater diversity and opportunities for female coaches in the sports industry. #ucr50 @abhornUCRedu

While Title IX has brought positive changes in women's sports and the representation of women coaches, there is a large amount of work to be accomplished. We should begin by focusing on enhancing equality and increasing the proportion of women in coaching roles. @TA_ED50 #UCR50

It’s a sad reality that even after 40 years, schools are still very slow to comply with Title IX. For example, from 2002-2006, there were 416 athlete complaints but only one university’s athletic program went under review. #ucr50 @abhornUCRedu

@WesHastings18 @TA_ED50 Creating a safe and inclusive environment in college sports requires clear policies, diversity training, and open dialogue to address issues of race and promote equality. It's a complex challenge, but essential for progress. @abhornUCRedu #UCR50

With the obvious unfairness in college sports when race is involved, how can athletics programs create a safe space for everyone and crack down on the problems that surround it? @TA_ED50 #UCR50

In order to facilitate our understamding of the cross-racial experience of Division 1 athletes, it's important to identify factors that contribute to a more positive campus climate; for example, a racially diverse student body @abhornUCRedu #ucr50

@Mariaplasmerc @abhornUCRedu Initiatives to educate athletes about the importance of maintaining a balanced lifestyle and seeking help when needed are essential. Universities should provide more resources for mental health, nutrition, & performance optimization to help athletes thrive. #UCR50 @abhornUCRedu

Ego-identities are prevalent— posing a risk to the health of student athletes. It is evident that they become more likely to abuse drugs & develop eating disorders in an attempt to increase their performance & keep their scholarships @abhornUCRedu #ucr50

I was surprised that some studies show that students have prejudices toward student athletes. How are student athletes supposed to feel comfortable and succeed in a school environment when their classmates and even faculty members harbor these attitudes? #ucr50 @abhornUCRedu

I was surprised to read that on average, Div. 1 athletes spend more than 40 hours per week on sport-related activities (Wolverton, 2008). Due to time constraint, are the academic expectations placed on regular students fair on student athletes? #UCR50 @abhornUCRedu

@AaliyahTuua @abhornUCRedu As a student athlete as well, I have never taken the time to understand the purpose and the role of the NCAA. It is important for me to understand these purposes because I am a part of this institution being a student athlete at the collegiate level. @abhornUCRedu

Chapter 2 specifies the role of the NCAA and its intended purposes. Seeing it written out as a student athlete currently opens my eyes to the grand scope of it all. I found there’s so much more i can be taking away from my experience as a student athlete. #UCR50 @abhornUCRedu

After watching the lectures and being shown the new power 5 structure and its weighted voting rights, it is hard to understand why college athletes only make up 3.1% when they are the ones who spend ~40 hours a week participating in athletic activity. @abhornUCRedu #UCR50horn
