Socialist: the answer is that everything should be brought down to the level of public schools and nothing should work. We should rely on government/Santa Clause to provide us with the things we need in life.

Pasadena Unified School District is closed all next week. Everything else in the area is open. The gym, the malls, the restaurants. People are expected to go about their lives even though many are affected. Why should public schools be the one exception? Are they less important or essential than gyms and restaurants? Are their staff somehow affected more? Either you should believe everything else should close, or the schools should be open. This is the same thing we saw during Covid. Public schools in a state dominated by teachers unions will look for whatever excuse possible not to work. They don’t care show many people they inconvenience, or if the rest of the world has managed to deal with the exact same situation. They’ll get paid no matter what, so look for excuses not to work, grabbing onto “safety” or “equity” or whatever justification they can. If you’re in a state where there’s actual hope of getting universal school choice or even taking on union power in other ways, keep this in mind. Don’t end up like California.
