@ticequadbg 9/ Balance is probably the perfect word for all of this. Not perfection or immediate maturity — just balance, built slowly over time with the right people and environment around him.

This will be a long post but I keep seeing different opinions & I come somewhere in-between. So I decided to have my own take on this, not diminishing others'. The shock from the Olympics hit Ilia hard & yes, he still has not recovered. I cannot forget how he froze on the Prague podium - no emotion, just blank stare during the anthem. As a young man, he reacts impulsively - trying to run away from a certainly bad moment in his life by doing 100 other things to cover it up. They won't cover it up, nothing will, unfortunately, and learning from such an experience does not come in the span of 3 months, no matter how old you are. But when you are just 21, there is an uncontrolled stubbornness of "you'll see that I am much more than what you thought about me" - yet, he is not entirely sure what this "much more" should be & what to focus on, so he goes all over the place, just to avoid his own not-so-positive thoughts. So, yes, age is a factor & it plays its tricks on all of us. He does everyone's typical mistake in our early 20s - "I know it all, I am capable of doing anything, and I will do it". You are strong & capable, yes, but there needs to be a focus, especially when you have already taken one path in life. This "one path" is not forever, especially not in sports, but it, for better or worse, defines you. It is not the question of quitting one thing over the other - it is about combining &, even more so, about prioritizing. It is hard to fight with a 21yo boy, yes, but there are plenty of ways to navigate him. Yes, there will be mistakes, undoubtedly, but they should not be disastrous - not on his mentality, not on his body, not on his career either. The balance is the key. Ilia still has not found it. And it is way too unrealistic to hope he will find it even at the time of Tampere 2027, if I am being honest - it is a constant work, with the right tools & people around. I just believe he will do it properly.

You could come to the conclusion that he learned nothing from the Olympics and continues to remain an immature child

@ticequadbg 8/ There is something very sincere and emotionally transparent about him, even when he hides it behind impulsive decisions or distractions. That is why so many people still care deeply about him.

@ticequadbg 7/ Mistakes at his age are inevitable, but they should become lessons, not self-destruction. And honestly, beneath all the chaos, he still seems like a genuinely good-hearted person.

@ticequadbg 6/ I also agree that the people around him matter a lot. Guidance is not about controlling him, but helping him channel all that energy in a healthier and more sustainable way.

@ticequadbg 4/ You explained something very important: this is not about choosing one thing over another, but about balance, structure, and priorities. Young people often try to prove themselves in every direction at once.

@ticequadbg 3/ At 21, pain often turns into impulsiveness, restlessness, and the constant need to distract yourself. And when someone is naturally ambitious and intense, those reactions become even stronger.

@ticequadbg 2/ I also think the Olympics affected him far more deeply than many realize. That moment in Prague did not look like simple disappointment — he looked emotionally overwhelmed and disconnected.

@ticequadbg 1/ This is such a thoughtful and balanced perspective, and I honestly agree with every word. I appreciate that you manage to be compassionate without losing realism. You acknowledge both his vulnerability and his responsibility.

@pino_xin Only the self-proclaimed social media “experts” criticize his body of work, while the actual professionals, the people who truly understand what they are watching, continue to praise him and admit they are running out of words to describe his brilliance.

You might as well just admit you dislike Ilia Malinin. Even professional commentators praised how incredibly fluid his step work was at the World Championships. It’s rather ridiculous when people harbour dislike for him yet pretend to stay unbiased.

@xplr_twdfan These so-called fans are becoming absurd. He looks absolutely incredible, and what matters most is that he’s healthy. I genuinely wish they would stop pretending to support him and finally leave him in peace.

@krobill2 @ILeontieva31384 actually, he’s in shape now more than he ever will be. it is consistent training that helped his body adjust and accommodate to the quads, and also his healthy techniques that keep the injuries away. im not saying he’s invincible, nor am i saying he should overwork himself +

даймонд@diamond_b0t

@eggietarrts @ILeontieva31384 Deep down they know the truth hence they are so aggressive. People who are insecure tend to behave like this. Ilia's talent is something unseen in figure skating. Absolutely every professional in the sport says it. Reality can't be changed by baseless comments on X.

@ILeontieva31384 it speaks volumes that they bring up retired fs alike, because no one currently competing can touch him. and even comparing retired figure skaters who have had long distinguished careers to a kid who has a long career left is so lame 🤣

Exactly that. They perceive him as a threat to their idol’s legacy. It’s not really about the 4A or not only about the 4A.They see and understand that Ilia is an unprecedented talent with tons of charisma, and they can’t do anything about it.All their anger comes from helplessness.
lemontart⁷@eggietarrts

@ILeontieva31384 they percieve him as a threat because he’s the best right now. and he’s in the leagues of the greatest. and yeah, the best is always a threat to those competing, who want to win medals. in my case i didn’t even say anything bad about hanyu but they jump in to defend his honor 😭
