@icteridcorvid @YaBoi_WeeGee @_mtrmtr nickelodeon themselves had no control over the comics. it was one of the deal's in hillenburg's contract that he had exclusive control over the comics, much like matt groening with the simpsons (same lawyer iirc) so stephen's company (united plankton) is in charge of them.
