I suppose this whole "decline in children reading for pleasure" business doesn't matter to the recent batch of celebrity authors writing books very clearly aimed at grandparents to buy as presents. These books will sell. They just won't necessarily get read by many children.

In case it helps other frockers, here's a bit more about my surgery. I've been diagnosed with atypical hyperplasia, which means that my womb is growing precancerous cells. Without a hysterectomy, there's a high chance they could become cancer. I had no symptoms at all; it was found during investigations into the 20cm ovarian cyst that is causing constant pain. Roll on, surgery!

Sad to read that maritime historian Dr Simon Willis who was a regular contributor to the Who Do You Think You Are? magazine & an author died on 7th October after a long illness 😥
