I was proud to join my Democratic colleagues in calling for an end to the war with Iran. As a member of the Committee on Veterans and Military Affairs, I signed this letter to Wisconsin’s Congressional Delegation to do their job and stop Trump’s illegal war. Every day this conflict continues, it puts our troops at greater risk, wastes taxpayer dollars, and makes our world less safe. We must choose a path that prioritizes peace, accountability, and the well-being of our communities.

BREAKING: I just signed the bill to extend postpartum coverage for Wisconsin moms from a lousy 60 days to one full year after giving birth. I promised I'd never stop fighting to make sure moms and babies had the postpartum care they need, and today, I delivered on that promise.

Today is a good day. Assembly Democrats have fought so hard to expand access to care for new moms and babies, and I was proud to join Governor Evers as the postpartum Medicaid expansion bill was signed into law!

MADISON, WI – On March 14, Assembly Democrats introduced a proposal to use $1.3 billion of the state’s surplus to provide significant property tax relief and increase state funding for public schools. State Representative Angelito Tenorio (D-West Allis) released the following statement: “While Speaker Vos and Assembly Republicans pack up and head home early, we know that there is still work to be done. All session long, Wisconsinites have been asking for more funding for our schools and action to lower property taxes. We need to act on these priorities. “We have a straightforward solution: pick up the tab for constitutionally-mandated public school services, and meaningfully keep down local property taxes without further shortchanging our communities. When the state pays its fair share, property taxes stay down. It’s that simple. “Our proposal increases general school aid paid by the state, using just some of the surplus funds at our disposal. By doing so, we project the state can deliver serious relief to property taxpayers who have been footing the bill left to them by years of Republican budgeting. “Second, our proposal addresses a universal strain on public school districts’ tight budgets: the low reimbursement rate for special education services. While Legislative Republicans claimed they would reimburse 42% of special education costs in public schools this year and 45% next year, they budgeted insufficiently and are expected to fall some 7% short of their promise. Our bill uses existing surplus funds to increase reimbursement rates to 60%, allocates enough money to meet that commitment, and would significantly reduce the need for operating referendums across Wisconsin. “We know this proposal will have bipartisan support in our neighborhoods. What remains to be seen is whether it will have bipartisan support inside the Capitol. I hope Legislative Republicans and Governor Evers are ready to listen to public education professionals, parents, and local taxpayers, and pass our bill.”

Had a great meeting with constituents who came to the Capitol with the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin. Always grateful for the chance to hear directly from pharmacists and pharmacy students about the issues impacting patient care and our communities!

One of my bills received a public hearing yesterday! That may not sound like much, but in the current GOP-controlled legislature it’s pretty rare for a good bill to even receive a hearing when a Democrat is the lead author. I testified in support of my bill to prohibit health insurance companies from using AI to deny prior authorization for health care. Technology should improve our health care, not create new barriers that prevent patients from getting the care they need.

Proud to be an original author of the BadgerCare Public Option bill! Access to quality, affordable health care is one of the top issues I hear from constituents. No family should have to go without coverage because they cannot afford it. This bill would expand affordable coverage for working families across Wisconsin!

Proud to sign this letter in support of Rogers Behavioral Health caregivers who are organizing for dignity, fair working conditions, and the highest quality patient care. No worker should be fired for exercising their legal right to unionize. I stand with caregivers here in West Allis and across Wisconsin as they fight for respect and a voice on the job.

As Black History Month comes to a close, I’m reflecting with gratitude on the leadership, resilience, and brilliance of Black communities in Wisconsin and across our country. Black history is American history, and the work for equity and justice continues year round.

Happy Black History Month! I’m incredibly grateful for the leadership of the Wisconsin Legislative Black Caucus and the powerful events they’ve hosted throughout February. I had the honor of attending their reception celebrating Milwaukee restaurants. The work of Black Caucus to uplift our communities makes Wisconsin stronger!

This Public Schools Week, I’m thinking about the students, teachers, and families our public schools serve every single day. I promise I will always fight for strong public schools, invest in our classrooms, and stand up for the educators and kids who make our communities thrive.
