Let’s put this into perspective: If a local cafe manager in the UK is flagrantly negligent with food safety—storing meat wrong or ignoring hygiene rules—they face up to 2 years in custody under the Food Safety Act, even if nobody dies. ​Yet, these two pilots pack 140+ people onto inflatable dinghies, navigate freezing, open waters without lifejackets, disrupt international shipping lanes, and their combined total sentence is just over 4 years? ​The British legal system apparently views running a dirty kitchen with nearly the same severity as running an illegal human trafficking transit line that risks mass drowning. Pathetic is an understatement.
