We are running an online survey to collect photos/videos of the devastating ex-tropical Cyclone Jasper flooding. It only takes 5 minutes to complete and the information will be used for mapping, checking flood model predictions and planning evacuation routes. The survey is accessible here: forms.fillout.com/t/pxuptPxPpgus

The 14th #TESS retreat was once again a huge occasion for students, staff and adjunct researchers from the @jcu College of Science and Engineering to meet in Cairns, and discuss our research. TESS research addresses important environmental changes in the Tropics associated with climate and land use change from a range of disciplinary perspectives making it the most multidisciplinary research centre at JCU. At TESS we create critical mass from a range of disciplines that challenges the attendees to broaden their perspectives and become more interdisciplinary in their thinking. Our talks ranged from leaf chemistry and function to elephants as ecological engineers. This year PhD student Emma Carmichael won the best 3 min talk – with her research on elevational gradients and the distribution of nursery frogs in the #WetTropics. This year we heard how one of our flagship programs into #invasivespecies has now blossomed into their own research Centre for #Biosecurity, and that TESS Director Prof Bill Laurance and TESS Coordinator Dr Yoko Ishida are stepping down from their roles after a decade of service and their hosting of >300 #seminars. TESS has had a significant contribution to the research culture of JCU and we look forward to what our 15th year will bring us in #2024
