Can we talk about the problematic prevelance of trauma porn in education PD, or are we not ready for that conversation yet?

A2 The focus for me with littles is independence. Can they start using the device w/o a ton of adult intervention to explore? That looks different at each grade level. #edtechchat

A1: Due to limited access, tech for littles pre-Covid was sporadic. Some Ts did a ton, some went to the lab 30 min/wk for literacy/math games. We didn't invest in tech or training to an extent that made it equitable. #edtechchat

@KatelynWhitak20 When I was teaching HS, I learned a lot from littles teachers. They often have an interesting POV. That was just my experience though. #edtechchat

@Hypepraise Oh, I get that. So many broken mics and cams. We can handle the lack of subscription tools, but we need functioning devices for all students. It worries me. #edtechchat

@TechwithPhilly That was another problem we have old clunky laptops that were given to Ss who needed tech but the laptops didnt have microphones or cameras and enhanced Wi-Fi hotspots were only provided at 4/37 schools and we are using MS Teams #edtechchat

A5: We were already playing catch up because hardware hadn't been a priority in past years, so I'm scared. IT is amazing, admin is amazing, but our tech was already outdated. #edtechchat

@JimSullivanEDCO Tell me about it. Over half of our windows devices can't handle 10 and because we have such a hodge podge of student devices, IT struggles to keep parts on hand. I wish I could wipe the slate clean. We were going to be caught up in 6 years. Now I don't know. #edtechchat

A4- I want to use this as an opportunity to help my Ts focus on the why behind the tool. Rather than start with a tool, let's start with the problem. What do you hope to accomplish? How can we do that with what we already have available? #edtechchat

@craigyen The "shiny thing" dilemma is real! Trying to focus on maximizing learning through a few, powerful tools can be difficult when there are so many amazing options out there. #edtechchat

A3) With a lack of preparation and not thorough knowledge, I did grasp at a few too many tools. I need to narrow that focus and really see which bring value in areas such as collaboration #edtechchat

A3: I have learned that I need to give my Ts the tools to better choose the free tech they use. Does it enrich learning? Is it safe? Is it COPPA compliant? Is it equitable/unbiased? This is my summer project. #edtechchat

@Mr_Gray123 We have a couple of HS helpers, the problem is that we are planning to keep 6-7 year old chromebooks in regular circulation.

@TechwithPhilly At our school Copley-Fairlawn schools, we run a program where the HS students do hardware and software repairs to keep costs down.

A2: The quality of programs, I believe, will actually be higher than in the past. Reluctant Ts have been pushed into the tech pool and are starting to excel. I am worried about access. If we can't replace broken devices, inequity will grow quickly. #edtechchat

@LynneLieuxRSCJ We hope to start in person somehow, but my job is to build capacity in Ss, Ts, and families from day one in case of eventual closures. #edtechchat

A1: We are also looking for free tools wherever possible, though use of paid edtech tools is minimal outside of elementary. #edtechchat

A1: We are not replacing any EOL devices, instead planning to only replace then when they break. We are reducing our number of loaners and pushing back K-2 1:1 another year at least. #edtechchat
