@PhDVoice I disagree with you but don't think can manage to debate on twitter. On your question on an example, my own experience of impostor syndrome is when I raise the self-bar owing to increased confidence, sometimes I defer the action.

@TheInnerYou1 what people think that’s the salient point not what reality is.) But I’m interested to hear an example of how confidence leads to imposter syndrome, if you have one 😃

@KatarinaHuelle1 @AcademicChatter Your growth will be non-linear. In the beginning you will feel excited, in the middle you will feel stuck and 6 months before you finish you will get so many new ideas that you would feel bad to finish. Most important would be to remember this trajectory when you feel stuck.

@AndieAitch @OpenAcademics @PhDForum Your recognition of this is already a big step in the right direction. Focus on a past event where you felt 'in flow' and positive. Replay that in your head in a loop. Most effective way to reduce negative thought is to replace it with a positive one. @AcademicChatter

@AcademicChatter Sorry to hear this. Can you focus on an event or a time (however brief) during your PhD when you felt good or in control? Try to focus on such events and go deeper into the feeling. You can contact me for more specific aspects.

Anonymous question "I have been feeling suicidal throughout my PhD. If anyone has experienced this, does the feeling go away after completion? I have tried meds, therapy, and neither helped."

You want your PhD supervisor to be your Guide, Philosopher and friendly mentor. But if s/he is not, don't fret over it. Accept that s/he just your boss during your Phd, and find such mentor elsewhere. There are plenty. @AcademicChatter #empathy

If you can't think of anyone, TALK TO ME. The people who matter in your life will never judge you. If they judge, then they don't matter. #empathy #AllLivesMatter

Say I AM SORRY. Say, I LOVE YOU. Say, I DON'T FEEL WELL. Say, I NEED YOU. You do not need to pretend that all is well. You do not need to be perfect. You are already successful, because you have someone to talk to.

Say, 'I am sorry', the world will be grateful. Say, 'my apologies', the world will be with you. Cry, the world will make you laugh. But, if you push, the world will push back so hard that you would not know when your world collapses. #empathy #AllLivesMatter
