This is wildly inappropriate behavior from the Mejia campaign. Never once did @HathawayForNJ11 even bother to ask who the moderator would be, because it was never about that. It was about providing NJ-11 residents with the opportunity to hear from both candidates head-to-head.

CD-11 Dem @Analilia_Mejia refused a debate, saying the League of Women Voters "could not commit to diversity among their proposed moderators." The League says the sticking point was not that, but that the Mejia campaign wanted input on who it would be.

🚨New: The Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement of the U.S. Committee on the Judiciary is inviting Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano and Sheriff Stacey Kincaid to testify at a hearing titled “Fairfax County, Virginia: The Dangerous Consequences of Sanctuary Policies” on April 15, 2026. “The hearing will examine how state and local policies that prohibit cooperation with federal immigration authorities hurt public safety. Your testimony will assist the Committee and Subcommittee in developing legislative reforms to address sanctuary jurisdictions.“ The hearing was scheduled after the murder of Stephanie Minter in Fairfax County.  Minter's alleged killer is Abdul Jalloh, an illegal immigrant with a lengthy criminal history. Kincaid is refusing to honor ICE's detainer on Jalloh.  Meanwhile, Descano's policy takes immigration consequences into account in criminal prosecutions.  Descano's office has dropped almost every charge against Jalloh that came across their desk, allowing him to walk free time after time before Minter's murder.
