I’ve been a feminist since the time I was in my mother’s womb. I don’t have a pre-feminist era.
For context, when I was a child, I asked my mum why my father used a wash basin after eating and why no one served her a wash basin since she was also an adult, so I would intentionally not carry my father’s wash basin when they gave it to me, so that he could wash his hands direct from the tap after eating like everyone else. I also told them I wouldn’t be getting married, I would adopt a kid. I was less than 10. I also use to randomly ask my mother to get a divorce 😂 for no reason mind you, I just couldn’t fathom why she would want to “submit” to her agemate.

My friend lost his job last September. Luckily, he had already paid this year rent and stocked up on food before things got bad. He has been searching for a new job, but nothing has come through, so he started learning video editing online to stay productive. Interestingly, he was the one who got his wife her current job. Since he lost his, she had been supporting him in her own little way at least financially until she stylishly stopped. Yet, he didn’t quarrel or question her. He then noticed that since last month, anytime she came back from work, she wouldn’t cook or even ask if he had eaten. This happened repeatedly until he finally asked her why. Her response? “Why can’t you cook too? You’re always at home doing nothing. Do you expect me to come back from work and still stress myself because you want to eat?” He's been eating outside since.

It was my cousin, Chioma, who I trusted more than my own friends.
We were very close. She knew everything about me, who I liked, my family issues, even the small embarrassing things I couldn’t tell anyone else. Anytime something happened in my life, she was the first person I would call.
One time, I told her about a guy I really liked. I hadn’t told anybody else because I didn’t want people to talk or spoil things. She even encouraged me, told me to go for it, said she liked how happy I sounded.
I didn’t know she had already started talking to him behind my back.
At first, I didn’t suspect anything. But the guy started acting strange. He became distant, stopped replying like before. I was confused, but I didn’t think too deep about it.
Then one day, I went out leaving only Chioma at home. When I got back, I met this guy in the house without him informing me that he was going to come. I even met them in my bedroom.
They were so shocked because they were not expecting me anytime soon.
The funniest part was that, they were not remorseful. The guy even said to my face that since I introduced Chioma to him as my cousin, he already fell in love with her.
Chioma who I thought was my confidant also looked into my face to tell me that, "it is love. Move on. You will find another guy"
I cried like baby that day. 😭😭
It wasn’t even just the guy. I can lose a guy. But she knew how I felt. She listened to me talk about him. She smiled with me… all while doing something behind me.
After that, I stopped telling her anything personal. Because the worst part wasn’t that she liked the same guy.
It was that she acted like my person… while quietly taking something she knew mattered to me.
I don't have any confidant again except God.🥹
