A true but seemingly controversial statement from our recent article on Standards-Based Grading.

1/7 As the years go by, fewer educators hear about one of the most important research findings of the 20th century, known as the Eight-Year Study. Back in the '30s, 30 high schools around the U.S. turned traditional practice on its head, especially for college-bound students...

Desmos

@TimothySpray First, great work, Gavin!  The small glitches here sometimes occur when there are lots of restrictions (and/or complicated ones). Good news is you can often fix this by using a double-inequality instead.  Example in line 183 here: desmos.com/calculator/x6n…

@desmos can you help my student Gavin. He has made this amazing image with over 200 lines of code and added shading. Parts of the shading are not showing up. The math is correct. Any ideas? desmos.com/calculator/voa…

We love @desmos. Hey desmos, any chance you can add a feature to darken minor grid lines. When I create a paper task with a desmos graph, it is sometimes hard for students to see the lines. Maybe you have already created this feature and I don't know about it. Thank you

@d_martin05 I love this conversation. The point of school is to support all students to success. Students learn at different rates. We use the final exam time for students to focus only on what they have not mastered yet and then allow them to improve. #sd61learn

With the cancellation of diploma exams again, we should ask “what is the purpose of final exams?” For me, finals were simply an excercise in confirming information I already knew. Hence why I stopped giving them and made my “final” into a celebration of learning. #edchat #abed

@alicekeeler Sitting is the new smoking. Kids sit way too much in our schools. Math especially lends itself to active learning : whiteboards , windows, wipeboards… When are bodies are moving our brains are moving.
