VANDERBIJLPARK — A 75-year-old former Pinedene Primary School staff member has admitted to stealing R15.6 million from the school over seven years. Aletta Martha ‘Alta’ van Eck originally from Tel Aviv pleaded guilty in the Specialized Commercial Crimes Court on April 8 to one count of theft. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said the money was siphoned from the Vanderbijlpark school’s bank accounts between January 2013 and December 2020. The NPA told the court that Van Eck has no previous convictions. Her bail was extended following the guilty plea. Magistrate requested both a correctional report and a probation officer’s report before sentencing. The matter was postponed to July 2 for pre-sentence proceedings. Van Eck first appeared in court on this case on July 4, 2025. Sentence has not yet been handed down.
