October's bird of the month is the spooky Great Horned Owl! Great Horned Owls don’t actually have horns, rather feather tufts on top of their head. Their beautiful yellow eyes cannot move independently, so they have to move their head more than 180 degrees to look around!

According to @ALALibrary, the book The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood is number 7 of the top 10 most challenged books of 2019 🚫📚 We, however, are fortunate to hold the book and other banned books in our collection, and support the freedom to read 📚✨

National Poetry Day starts conversations, encourages love of language. Best of all it’s open to absolutely everyone. As the art form’s most visible moment, poetry adds value to society. The Baldwin Library offers several books of poetry to peruse, like "Famous Stories and Poems."
