We cut our prices from $4,000 down to $0… And it was all because of a 29-year-old, sweatshirt-wearing, bitcoin evangelist… Here’s how it happened: Back in 2021, we would charge a brand around $4,000 to place a content creator in their business. We were operating with the typical placement agency business model. We’d find a creator for a brand and charge them an upfront fee. Our platform now does this exact thing… Except it’s free… And the idea was sparked from an interview that I heard with @jackmallers, founder of Strike (a company that allows you to buy bitcoin and send money globally with no fees). In the interview he said, “Open networks defeat closed networks… …and with open networks, it’s a race to the bottom. We don’t care about pricing. We’re building the best brand.” The goal was to build the network, go straight to $0 with the transaction fees, and then find a lane to monetize elsewhere. The lightbulb went off for me. I saw the parallel with the network that I was building in the creator economy. Instead of putting a paywall in front of our network (for brands or creators)... Which would significantly slow the network's growth... What if we just took it to $0… Made it completely free. Made it open. And let the network grow exponentially… By providing an extremely valuable service for free... And then simply find a place to monetize elsewhere... And that’s exactly what we did.

I just had someone on Upwork ask if I could create 15 videos for $22. When I said no, he said he had other creators lined up who would do it for $22. That is $1.46 a video. Who? Where? Why? #ugccreators #ugccommunity
