The officer approached Cato, who then fired three rounds, striking the officer once in the lower body. The wounded officer applied a tourniquet and described Cato fleeing south on Lake Avenue on foot. Other officers arrived quickly and rushed the injured officer to Rochester General Hospital. About four hours later, a police drone located Cato hiding behind a building on Lake Avenue. He pulled out a handgun and took his own life.
