Microsoft says it won't automatically install the Microsoft 365 Copilot app on Windows 11 PCs, at least for now. This comes as the company faces growing backlash online, with users increasingly mocking it as “Microslop” over its aggressive Copilot push. Microsoft previously said it would auto-install the Microsoft 365 Copilot app on PCs that already have Microsoft 365 apps like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Now, the company has paused the rollout. Overall, it feels like Microsoft is slowing down and rethinking how aggressively it pushes Copilot.

Microsoft's Copilot is dumping native code for web crap on Windows 11 yet again. Microsoft still can’t figure out what Copilot on Windows 11 is supposed to be. It started as a sidebar, then became an Edge-powered sidebar, then a PWA, then a proper WinUI-style native app, and now it feels like it has gone full circle back to being web junk in a Windows shell again. The worst part is that Microsoft already has its own modern Windows app framework, but it keeps falling back to web-based packaging for one of the most important apps it is trying to push on users. In fact, it looks like Microsoft now makes better apps for macOS than Windows 11.

More details in our investigation: windowslatest.com/2026/03/16/mic… If you love my work and want to support my efforts to call out tech giants for AI slop, please consider making me your preferred source on Google: google.com/preferences/so… - The internet is dominated by large media houses, and it's impossible for people to find us on platforms like Google. Making me your preferred source means you'll see more of my reporting on Google (hopefully).

Microsoft appears to be using AI slop to promote Windows 11 features that don’t look real. Yes, it looks like Microsoft’s marketing team can’t even capture a screenshot in Windows 11 to promote a basic feature like the Snipping Tool or the desktop. Microsoft proudly says the AI-slop screenshot of Windows 11 was generated using Copilot. In the image, the UI feels off, the details also don’t line up, and some of the so-called features don’t even look like the real UI of Windows 11. That’s the bigger problem with AI-generated marketing. That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is partly a marketing strategy to promote Copilot itself 🤷‍♂️

Microsoft confirmed it received reports of users losing access to the C: drive and experiencing app failures after installing the Windows 11 March 2026 Update. However, it turns out the symptoms were caused by an issue in the Samsung Galaxy Connect app, not Windows Updates. “While the reports coincided with the timing of the March Patch Tuesday updates, our investigation confirmed the issue is not caused by the current or previous Windows monthly updates,” Microsoft said. Moreover, some AI-generated reports on the internet claim that the March 2026 Update causes BSODs and reboot loops on certain PCs. However, it appears those publications relied on AI summaries of a handful of forum posts, and the update itself appears to be safe. Microsoft says it is not aware of any major issues with the March 2026 Update, and we have not encountered any significant bugs in our own tests either. Do not uninstall the Windows update due to false reports. It contains important security fixes.

Today, you're going to see reviews praising the MacBook Neo for its hardware, features, and even performance at this price point. Sure, the MacBook Neo has good hardware, and it's appealing to a certain group of consumers. It should worry Windows 11 OEMs, and they will likely step up their game in the mid-range lineup. But reviewers will go back to their premium, expensive devices after spending a few days with the MacBook Neo, and you'll be stuck with 8GB of RAM for the next several years. It doesn't matter how well macOS is optimized -- 8GB of RAM will start to feel slow when you use too many apps, keep multiple browsers open, or run heavier workloads. 8GB of RAM is EIGHT gigabytes at the end of the day. A laptop is an investment for years, and most of us don't buy one just to open a few browser tabs or use Office apps. If you care about specs, this laptop is not for you. At the same time, it's probably a great choice for younger students. If you really want to use macOS over Windows 11, you should ideally go for the base M4 model or consider a refurbished MacBook.

Microsoft is rolling out an Internet Speed Test tool in Windows 11, but it literally sends you to Bing in your default browser. The taskbar’s “Perform speed test” button doesn’t open any built-in internet speed test tool. You’d expect a multi-trillion-dollar company to build a native feature for something as basic as an internet speed test. But apparently, building a native internet speed test is rocket science, so Windows just sends users to Bing instead (which also helps increase Bing usage!) 🤷

The screenshot circulating on Reddit is FAKE. The Reddit moderators have now added a flag "Possibly misleading. OP posted nothing to indicate it for sure," as the OP did not provide any evidence. NOTHING. Microsoft has now debunked it and confirmed they did not ban "Microslop." You reposted a fake screenshot, and we all make mistakes. It's that simple. End of the story.

MSFT's statement: "The company does enforce certain policies to help ensure reviews are relevant to the content or product though" This just means they can claim a different reason for a ban or blocked word, but it may be that the use of "Microslop" is simply deemed "irrelevant" under these guidelines. Banning or blocking users from saying Microslop on at least one platform being confirmed is enough to not trust anything Microslop says with regard to censorship of its users, plus Slopya Nadella's personal pushback on the term at the CEO level. Being able to post the word doesn't mean they aren't trying to censor it. It just means you weren't blocked from posting it after it had already blown up. That could be for a number of reasons, including Microslop or its moderators changing their stance upon realizing confirmed censorship (e.g. in Discord) is a losing play, or that in fact they were not banning (or censoring) people for the word. It could also still be real, but for different reasons, something you also noted. They might be telling the truth. But I wouldn't take them at face value, and a post-hoc test isn't sufficient to know what they did prior to the attention wrought by the claims of bans or confirmed censored words. Edit/repost: Added "censored" in addition to ban comments, as it is just blocked on Discord.

Fact check: No, @GamersNexus -- this is false. In a statement to Windows Latest, Microsoft has confirmed that it is not banning the term “Microslop” in Microsoft Store reviews for the Xbox app or any other app. The viral Reddit screenshot making this claim is misleading, and Microsoft has already debunked it.

Microsoft confirms it's not banning reviews containing "Microslop" in the Windows 11 Store for the Xbox PC app. A viral Reddit and X post recently claimed that Microsoft is blocking the word “Microslop” in reviews for the Xbox PC app on the Microsoft Store. The post quickly gained traction, with thousands of upvotes and hundreds of comments from users criticizing Microsoft. However, the claim does not appear to be true. It's a fabricated screenshot. In a statement to Windows Latest, Microsoft confirmed that “Microslop” is not banned in Microsoft Store reviews. The company says reviews are moderated based on policy violations, not specific insults or nicknames.

Microsoft confirms you can now sync your passwords to the Copilot app for Windows 11 if you want to. This is an optional feature, and it's rolling out as part of a mini-browser in the Copilot app for Windows 11. When you click to open a link,  Copilot opens the content in a side pane next to your conversation instead of a separate browser window, so you don’t lose context. "Additionally, if you choose to enable it, you can  sync passwords  and form data so it’s easier to work within Copilot" - Microsoft. This change is rolling out to Windows Insiders, and it's completely optional.

Microsoft Edge now feels more like a Copilot app than a browser, and the standalone Copilot now looks like a browser. Yes, seriously. Microsoft is rolling out two major changes to Edge and Copilot. Edge now has Copilot as the default tab experience, so it looks like a full-blown AI experience. And now the standalone Copilot app is testing a browser-like UI for opening links within Copilot.
