Shan Hundal regularly being vocal about wanting to represent India and acquire Indian citizenship is something that deserves appreciation.👏🏻 At the same time, some of the expectations from him being placed on AIFF do not really make sense.🤦🏻 A football federation cannot push an individual player into an Indian Super League club or convince clubs to sign him. If Shan’s salary expectations are high and he is only interested in playing in the ISL, then it ultimately becomes the responsibility of his agent and himself to find the right club. What the federation can do is work on policies that make it easier for players of Indian origin to come and play in India, for example, introducing regulations such as allowing an additional foreign player slot for players of Indian origin. Policies like that could encourage more overseas Indian-origin players to enter the Indian football system and possibly pursue Indian citizenship in the future. But Shaan’s expectations from AIFF to help him with getting into an ISL club is unrealistic and outside the federation’s actual role.
