guys, i honestly do not like clowning on Gary. I don't find being the butt of a joke funny, so I imagine he does not either. But, this is what worries me about where we are going. We are actively encouraging an entire generation that the tech is there when its not, and a couple of silly mistakes made on a website isn't the end of the world, but people's data and breaches are serious. We are entering a very VERY hackable world, and I do not like it one bit.
gregorein@Gregorein

so... I audited Garry's website after he bragged about 37K LOC/day and a 72-day shipping streak. here's what 78,400 lines of AI slop code actually looks like in production. a single homepage load of garryslist.org downloads 6.42 MB across 169 requests. for a newsletter-blog-thingy. 1/9🧵

for context: the Hacker News homepage, run by Y Combinator, Garry's own org, makes 7 requests and transfers 12kb Garry's page makes 169 requests and transfers 6.42mb 562x heavier even discounting images, 73% of the bandwidth is waste. one could say it's a HAR truth. 8/9🧵

BREAKING: Spain has closed its airspace to US planes involved in attacks on Iran, per Reuters. The closure of the airspace forces military planes to bypass Spain's airspace when en route to their targets in the Middle East.

This is absolutely insane: The world is quite literally facing what appears to be the largest energy crisis in history. US crude oil futures are now trading at a $20+/barrel DISCOUNT to Brent, also one of the largest on record. As the US increases production and taps into reserves, the EU is facing a full out energy crisis. European natural gas prices are up another +30% today and physical crude oil prices in Oman and elsewhere are trading at $150+/barrel. In other words, the gap between Oman and US prices now stands at ~70%, or ~$70+ per barrel. It has become so bad for Europe that the market is now pricing-in 2 interest rate HIKES in 2026, even as the US removes sanctions on Russian oil. US rate cuts in 2026 are almost entirely priced-out as a result with Core PPI inflation on PRE-WAR data rising to its highest since February 2023. The entire global economy just took a complete 180 degree turn in 3 weeks. The next few months are going to be historic.

After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby. It has been an honor serving under @POTUS and @DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC. May God bless America.

Italian here. Schettini (the teacher in question) basically admitted it himself during one of the most popular podcasts in Italy (BSMT). He openly said that he used to push/force his students to boost his online engagement liking, commenting, reacting, participating in lives, etc. in order to grow his channels. The strategy worked perfectly: he quickly became the most famous “physics teacher” in Italy, appearing on TV, podcasts, live streams, major events… basically everywhere. Needless to say, he treated the classroom more like a personal content studio than a proper learning environment. His students didn’t receive the education they deserved. He had very clear (and questionable) rules: reactions, comments, and active participation online would directly increase their grades. When he was invited to speak at other schools, he would even ask for 150–200 copies of his book to be bought (again, just to inflate his sales numbers). His book was published by Mondadori, Italy’s biggest publisher, which often rides the wave of influencers and trends rather than focusing on real quality content. It’s basically a well-oiled machine we already seed multiple times… 😮‍💨
