The teams drafting 1st (Toronto) and 2nd (San Jose) were both sitting in WC1 seeds in their respective conferences on January 12. Both 45 games into the season. I don’t think people shit on Toronto enough for a legendary tank going 9-21-7 in their final 37 games (55 point pace)
In the last 10 years, Toronto has: • won two separate 1st overall picks • made the playoffs 8 times • won the 4th most regular season games of any franchise • had a top-10 player in NHL sign at a discount rate in free agency And they'll tell you they're the cursed ones.
The NHL needs to clamp down on conditional draft selections. A basic trade shouldn’t punt a draft pick four seasons later.
