2025 #ALX_SE team wrap-up: While running all the "old" programs, this was really the year for AI with a ton of new programs: - Applied AI - AI Starter Kit - AI for developers level 1 - AI for developers level 2 And we finished by updating our famous Software Engineering program with AI (both using AI to learn and to be more efficient at coding etc.) that will be announced and released next year. Very different format, even more impactful, than the "old" version. Big shout-out to @kalibetre @ehoneahobed Firdaus and @lowercase_life who were my partner in crime for everything AI. The metric of the year is that we have passed the 1.5M users mark on our intranet. 1,500,000+ users! That is 500,000 per year on average since @guillaumesalva @Karoubi @gautie_a and I joined @alx_africa & @FredSwaniker With that, I wish all my students a merry Christmas and a happy new year's celebration!

I have officially started self-learning Computer Science with reliable course materials. For me, writing code is not enough. I want to understand how systems actually work. After years of focusing on a programming language..

@jbarbier “Delete everything” and start over 😂😂😂 AI writes code, but engineers understand it 😂😂. Good rule of thumb 👍🏾
Checking AI’s work (helpful ≠ flawless)
Keeping your problem-solving skills strong
AI should be a sidekick, not the main hero

In today’s market, landing that first software engineering role has never been tougher for junior and recent graduates. I hear it every day from my own students: some are celebrating offers, but many are still struggling. It's true, it's harder than a few years ago. But it’s far from impossible. I’ve seen countless of my ALX and Holberton students secure positions. Most of the time, the difference between those who find a job and those who do not comes down to treating the job search as its own skillset, separate from coding. Knowing how to write code is only half the battle. You have to know how to network strategically, craft a compelling resume and online profile, structure your interview prep, and stay disciplined with job application (amount, quality and follow‑ups). That is what really moves the needle. Not being 5% better at Javascript. This is what my wife @Sophie_RB42 has seen while building Holberton, and what she continues to witness today. That’s why she, with the help of @_MariemEhab (one my ALX ex-student - very proud of her!) built OctoPrep.ai: an 8‑week, cohort‑based course that teaches you the complete job‑search toolkit. You’ll learn to: - Research and target opportunities efficiently - Optimize your resume, LinkedIn, and GitHub to stand out - Practice interviews in a structured, data‑driven way; and not just the interview itself, but everything that comes before and after - Track your progress and stay on schedule If you are looking a job in tech as a fresh grad or junior, I strongly recommend this program. Cohort 1 wrapped up with overwhelmingly positive feedback. Students report a real mindset shift and feel armed with the tools to land a role faster. Cohort 2 kicks off September 1. You can sign up here: octoprep.ai If you have questions, join her Twitter/X Space on Tuesday, July 22. Register and set reminder here: x.com/i/spaces/1LyxB… This isn’t a magic bullet, but for those who commit, I’m confident it will cut your time‑to‑offer dramatically. Give your job search the structure it deserves. @OctoPrepAI

from data, not intuition. It is important to always review, test, and understand what it gives you. The future is bright. if we use AI wisely! #ALX_AIDEV and @alx_africa

Discuss ideas, debug together, and refine your skills at lightning speed. What took years to master can now be accelerated with AI’s vast expertise. Without the right mindset, it’s easy to become sloppy. Over-reliance can lead to buggy, insecure code. AI isn’t perfect, it learns

Applying AI in software development is like coding with an expert by your side; fast, powerful, and full of knowledge. Want to build something quick? It can do that. But the real magic? Using AI as a mentor. Imagine learning from the best, like having Linus Torvalds guiding you.
