I've heard some suggestions that wasn't the whole price and there were other factors and maybe it actually cost $20k. But let's say it cost $50k, or even $100k.
That seems okay to me? If it doesn't scale yet, a bespoke solution is fine

Sorry to be the downer because this is an impressive story in some senses. But it is ~trivially easy to make a single mRNA vaccine. It's not hard. I cure mice of various cancers with various therapeutics all the time. I've made mice lose more weight in a month than tirzepatide does in a year. What is hard and expensive is proving its BOTH safe AND effective **in a randomized and controlled study in humans** while ALSO manufacturing it at clinical scale and grade. I am happy for this man and his dog. It is impressive. But y'all are overhyping it.

@metavestor @eddylazzarin The drug targets the specific genetic mutation which caused the cancer his dog has. That kind of treatment is unlikely to scale- it's tailored to a single individual.

@eddylazzarin Missed the entire point although the original post was confusing. There’s a million cures to cancer in mice but time and time again they don’t translate to humans

@HarrisWangberg @jeffreytucker @DrNeilStone Improved standards of living would have an impact but diphtheria is passed from person to person, so all it would theoretically take for an outbreak in e.g. UK would be one person coming back from abroad infected, yet it hasn't happened.

The point is diphtheria never came back. No further outbreaks. Compare that to India or Indonesia where vaccination rates are still low and you'll see a different picture.

Incredibly, it was the CPS who brought the case to the High Court trying to have the original verdict reinstated.
The Crown Prosecution Service of the UK wants a blasphemy law enforced.

The High Court got it right: Britain has no blasphemy laws. You can worship freely, you can criticise freely, and the state should go after intimidation and violence, not hand out criminal records for causing offence.

🇬🇧 The Ministry of Justice has ordered the deletion of the UK's largest court reporting archive. Courtsdesk, a platform launched to improve media access to magistrates' court data has been ordered to delete its archive of records by David Lammy's Ministry of Justice. According to Courtsdesk, the platform has since been used by more than 1,500 journalists from 39 media organisations and the data provided has highlighted serious failures in the courts system. It said journalists were given no advance notice of 1.6 million criminal hearings, the number of court cases listed was accurate on just 4.2 per cent of sitting days and half a million weekend cases were heard with no notification to the press. In November, HM Courts and Tribunal Service issued the company a cessation notice, citing what it called "unauthorised sharing" of court data, on the basis of a test feature, claiming this was a "data protection issue." Enda Leahy, the Courtsdesk chief executive said: "We built the only system that could tell journalists what was actually happening in the criminal courts. We wrote 16 times asking for dialogue.
