Hi all! I am wading into the waters of grassroots football punditry with my first piece on Substack below; changingangles.substack.com/p/the-rebirth-… I'll be putting out more work later in the week, so please follow if you're interested in more long-form, modern analysis of the AFL and Freo.

After enjoying watching them win during the last fortnight, im finding it strangely enjoyable watching them lose by a million

@tom_davoren @changingangles7 There's also a lot of openly malicious outside forces and unforced errors in there, but it just really tickled me to see them described as lucky.

Below are Serong's fourth quarter's in the last seven games decided by 2 goals or less. It's become a bit of a hipster take to talk him down or put players like Brayshaw above him. worth noting he is the only Docker to consistently deliver at this level late in close games.

Think tonight is where the season really begins for Freo. Adelaide were the best post-clearance contested team in the comp last year, exactly the area identified below as Fremantle’s key area for growth in 2026. Have a read before the bounce open.substack.com/pub/changingan

Honoured to contribute to TW’s TWIF! Have a look at how far i will allow pettiness to drive me in a brief analysis of Competitive Advantage afforded by opening round. More work on the rampant advantages afforded to some teams to come

Wrote about Fremantle’s ability to win contests post clearance as key to their offensive ceiling prior to Round 1. Two games in and freo have put up the below front half contest numbers and posted scores of 100 and 118. Looking forward to taking stock at Round 5.

Hoping that game is a template for the way these rule changes are metabolised over the season; Heightened offensive volatility early, normalising as fatigue sets in and players/structures adjust, producing a more familiar product that still leans on contest in the long run

David King just said, after a forward handball chain, that "this is the new Swans". The problem is that this is ~every team now. This is what the AFL wanted. I know I said last call, but Q1 of this game means I want to push this piece one more time. onepercenters.net.au/p/has-the-afl-…

I was feeling polemical, so for this week's review, I articulated my worries about the effect of the recent set of rule changes. That, plus clips, graphs, statistical nuggets, and recommended reading from friends of the newsletter. onepercenters.net.au/p/has-the-afl-…
