Mint Mechanics (Part One of Sixty-Nine): NodeMonkes had in mind to allocate 1,000 slots to charitable donors who emailed us, however, the response has been orders of magnitude greater than expected (thank you), and we are unable to accommodate everyone who applied. Zero white lists have been allocated via this method and we need to adapt to the extreme level of demand, which was not anticipated. We offered to donate 80% of proceeds of sale to a charity that supports Bitcoin developers. We thought this might help to bridge the divide between people in the Ordinals and Bitcoin developer communities. They essentially told us to go and jump in the lake. This was disappointing, but led us to the conclusion that to support the Ordinals ecosystem, we have to grow it from within, not from without. Therefore, we propose to do even more than originally planned, by promising to donate the first $5,000,001 raised from a paid public mint to the Open Ordinals Institute for the purpose of developing the Ordinals ecosystem. This is an ambitious target, and also has memetic value for us, as it is $1 more than an offer we rejected to sell the project earlier this year. Unfortunately, the parabolic growth in interest for NodeMonkes has rendered a free mint mechanic impossible. A free public mint would be severely botted and result in a small number of programmers minting 90% or more of supply, which would disappoint most, and hurt the collection. A white listed free mint is a centralized decision-making process, with inherent biases, and is not in the spirit of the bitcoin network, which also did not have a white list for launch. Therefore, our launch mechanic will have the following properties: - public - fair - no whitelist - paid We are designing a native experience, which is well under way, and at this stage, expect to meet our launch deadline of December 13.
