I'm starting a project where I hope to go through the Genshiken manga and analyze the official English translation chapter by chapter, noting unique elements of the translation and (especially) pop culture elements that may have been missed. #genshiken

Maybe worse, it seemed like they would have preferred that the character be named "Flame" (obviously this is behind just calling the character "Homura" in English). We've got English speakers that now understand commonplace Greek and Latin roots less than basic Japanese terms...

I totally forgot to include another thing that bothered me. I saw some people who seemed truly unaware of the obvious etymology behind "Pyra," and thought it wasn't a good localization for "Homura." One of them said English was their mother tongue! "Pyre"? "Pyromaniac"!?
