You can never write $ATOM off.
Yes, pure price performance has been underwhelming, there's been a lot of drama and there is neither leadership nor a clear roadmap.
But the fact that it's leaderless may also be an edge?
I've been hearing "ATOM is dead" for years now ... but how did it manage to survive in the top 25 during the harshest bear market ever?
If ATOM was dead, it would have been flushed out already and to be found at the bottom of page one or even page two on Coingecko... but it's not.
We've had decent 20% APY just for staking throughout the past years and crazy airdrops left and right ( $TIA $DYM $NAM) are some of the recent- and upcoming ones but there's countless more.
Also, these airdrops kept breeding new airdrops. The $OSMO airdrop alone is a great example for that.
Airdrops are becoming a meme but what it actually means is that the Cosmos Hub served as the ultimate source to entirely (or at least partially) bootstrap new communities.
On the product development side, there are constantly new things popping up such as @asteroidxyz which pioneers inscriptions and CFT-20s on the @CosmosHub, restoring its culture.
Or @TimewaveLabs that is pioneering a new business avenue for Liquidity-as-a-Service to strengthen ATOMs role as interchain capital, built on @Neutron_org.
Then we've got @informalinc's work on shared security and the vision to establish ATOM as a Security Aggregator chain. First #Bitcoin via Babylon, maybe $ETH via Eigenlayer next?
There are top quality chains that are already secured by the Cosmos Hub today: Neutron and Stride. Both are amazing and fully ATOM aligned.
The next upgrade for shared security will introduce partial set security which makes the onboarding of new chains much smoother.
In my view, ATOM does not need to secure 1000 chains but rather maintain high quality standards and onboard 5-10 chains more.
On the tokenomics side of things, we will soon have @EffortCapital's proposals to capture more value for ATOM by implementing revenue shares, a research initiative that was funded by the @ATOMAccelerator.
Compared to when I got into Cosmos to today, I see the ATOM community much more engaged and optimistic. Governance is extremely active and there are lively discussions about new features or any parameter changes.
This also fits into @sunnya97's thoughts on ATOM becoming the ultimate Governance powerhouse for the Interchain and beyond .. maybe?
My conclusion is that holding $ATOM only is certainly not enough to capture the entire upside in Cosmos, but I would not want to have no ATOM at all.
It's the least flashy and least aggressive chain out there but certainly the most battle-tested and resilient one which makes it so interesting.
What are your thoughts on ATOM?
Are we through the mud and from here on positive vibes, innovative products and solid integrations only?

This is spectacular BD work from informal
Informal Systems@informalinc
What if the Hub became a security aggregator, attracting billions in security from across the crypto space? We are happy to introduce the @Bitcoin @babylon_chain x @cosmoshub integration! (Forum post in last tweet - don't miss out)
