Utilities aren't actually that expensive - it's all the overhead that goes along with them that makes them pricey.
Only 38% of my gas bill is the actual gas, the rest is garbage administration and corporate overhead.
The same thing applies for electricity, 1/2 the bill is 'line / delivery' charges.
I understand that there is overhead in maintaining the infrastructure, but it seems excessive that it consists over over half the bill - they can sneak any fee in here they want and call it 'infrastructure.'
Don't get me started on healthcare, which is much worse...
