🚔 Pink Shirt Day – Stand Up Against Bullying Today we recognize Pink Shirt Day - a day dedicated to kindness, respect, and ending bullying. Let's create a safe space for everyone. Bullying has no place in our communities, and together, we can make a difference. Take a stand, be kind, and speak up when you see someone in need. 🩷

On Wednesday, February 18, the Durham Regional Police Service proudly welcomed 40 new recruits and 2 PSD’s during a graduation ceremony in Oshawa. One of the largest recruit classes in DRPS history. The ceremony featured stirring performances by the DRPS Pipes and Drums and the DRPS Choir, as family and friends gathered to celebrate this milestone achievement. Chief Peter Moreira formally welcomed the graduating class and presented each officer with their badge. The recruits went on to recite their Declaration of Membership, affirming their dedication to serve with integrity and respect. Constable Evan Taggart, chosen as valedictorian, delivered heartfelt remarks on behalf of the class, emphasizing the importance that the recruits look out for one another as they embark on their careers as police officers. “Policing is a calling. It’s something you can’t really explain, it’s a feeling…that you wanted to show up every day as the best version of yourself. To take a situation that could be someone’s worst day, and in some way make it even just a little bit better. And each recruit standing here today has worked incredibly hard to be able to answer that calling.” Chief Moreira also shared words of guidance for the new officers: “Tonight, you will receive your badges and with them, something deeper. You are receiving the trust of the people we serve. Being a police officer means upholding the law, protecting the vulnerable, and standing as a source of stability and hope in times of uncertainty and chaos. Guard that trust fiercely.” Constable Jay Wooten was recognized with the Allan D. Christiansen Memorial Award, an honour voted on by his peers. The award highlights leadership, positivity, commitment to fitness, and dedication to volunteerism—qualities that reflect Allan D. Christiansen’s lasting legacy. The newly sworn officers will now continue their journey with coach officers, gaining frontline experience across platoons throughout Durham Region. The ceremony also included a special moment for two Police Service Dogs, PSD Zero and PSD General who received their badges. We extend our congratulations and a warm welcome to the newest members of the DRPS family.
