There is no arguing it – Blue Springs South High School senior Garrett Flack is the most decorated Speech and Debate student in BSSD history. Flack capped off his final year as a Jaguar by becoming the first individual national champion in district history, winning the crown at the 2025 NSDA National Tournament in Des Moines, IA. Flack was a Senate Congressional Debate finalist for the third year in a row, placing second in the nation last year and 14th as a sophomore. This year, Garrett’s final round of competition was in the Iowa state capitol building, where he and 20 finalists competed for the national title. He not only won the title, but was also elected to the role of “President of the Senate” by his fellow finalists for a second consecutive year. Garrett is the first BSSHS national champion and the first BSSD champion since Blue Springs High School won Duo Interpretation in 2010. The Blue Springs Education Foundation hosted its annual fundraising breakfast, Spring into Giving.💙💐 The event raised over $120,000 to support classroom grants, scholarships, and various programs. @JEDunn Construction was honored with the Spotlight on Giving award. JE Dunn supports Real World Learning opportunities through job fairs, internships, and camps, and are a significant financial partner for BSEF. Staff and students from @JWEWarriors shared a few of the reasons why they are a 2024 ESEA Nationally Distinguished School. @bssjaguars Senior Garrett Flack emceed the event, while student performers included BSSHS All-State Choir Members and @WildcatsBSHS students Owen Pirch and Jada White. And BSSHS Family and Consumer Science teacher Lauren McKiddy was surprised with the Spotlight on Teaching award and a $1,000 classroom grant. Congratulations to our September Student of the Month, @bssjaguars Senior Garrett Flack. Garrett excels at various activities and maintains a 4.362 cumulative GPA. He made Jaguar history this summer when he placed second in the nation in Senate Congressional Debate.
