Things to Consider Before “Jakpa” (Moving Abroad) 1. Do Proper Research The first thing you need to know about jakpa is that you don’t just travel to any country because of it. You need to do proper research. The internet alone is not enough. If possible, try to find a few people who actually live in that country and talk to them to understand the real situation on the ground.

5. Job Opportunities Some countries may have strong economies, but that doesn’t always mean opportunities are accessible for immigrants. You might be highly qualified and still struggle to find a job even with advanced degrees.

4. Racism and Systemic Barriers Understand that racism exists in many Western societies. Sometimes it’s not just direct racism but systemic racism, where a Black person may find it difficult to rise beyond a certain level in a career or gain access to certain spaces and opportunities.

3. Study Immigrant Success in That Country Look into how immigrants especially Black immigrants are doing in that country. Check if they are able to build successful careers and businesses. You might be surprised by what you discover.

2. Language Matters If you are coming from an English speaking country, the best option is usually another English-speaking country. Adding a language barrier to your struggles can make life much harder and increase the challenges you face when settling

A TRIBUTE TO DR. ABIBOYE CHEDUKO YIFIEYEH With deep sorrow and profound respect, I pay tribute to a remarkable man, Dr. Abiboye Cheduko Yifieyeh, whose life was a shining example of service, excellence, and compassion. Dr. Yifieyeh was not only a dedicated paediatric surgeon and educator but also a devoted pastor. He served both in the healing of the body and the nurturing of the soul, touching countless lives through his medical practice and his ministry. His commitment to helping others was more than a profession, it was a divine calling he fulfilled with humility, wisdom and unwavering faith. As a doctor, he brought hope and healing to many families. As a teacher, he shaped the minds and futures of young professionals. And as a pastor, he guided, inspired, and strengthened the spiritual lives of many. His life reflected true service, one rooted in love, kindness, and purpose. He will be remembered not only for his achievements but for his gentle spirit, his compassion, and the genuine care he showed to everyone he encountered. His legacy lives on in the lives he saved, the students he mentored, and the souls he uplifted. Though his passing leaves a great void, we are comforted by the impact he made and the lives he transformed. His work on earth may be done, but his legacy continues to speak. Rest well, Doctor. Rest well, Pastor. You have fought a good fight. Gone, but never forgotten.
