But as I said elsewhere there’s bits where I’d like to see how this affects the global scale
Oda has also kept the last 4 arcs in entirely secluded settings

Oda is good at writing settings for each arc. Occasionally, those cross over to the next/previous arc. Systems that are introduced usually last. But there is no correlation between different islands and locations

@furuyukimura @jaiytsu I mean you don't need every marine to have them. A small group of marines with a few bullets would be very useful. Luffy would have some bullets bounce off of him and then bam, hit with a sea stone bullet.

And many characters lack secondary goals to further their agenda.
And I don’t think any of these things are terrible, I just think OP has strengths and weaknesses and the worldbuilding is a weakness.

The only bit of One Piece rage bait that works on me nowadays is when people say OP’s worldbuilding is nothing more than “random places with no setup, connection or interaction” It’s so obviously not true but not obvious enough cuz I still people say it.

Every island is mostly isolated and the stories are repeated, usually it’s an usurped kingdom where the strawhats help the rightful prince.
I also don’t think those places interact a lot with one another

Because nothing HAS been in earnest! Oda has been consistently dropping the ball with EVERY ARC, with EVERY PLOTLINE, AND WITH EVERY CHARACTER! The only reason people still consume this garbage is because it's worthless. The author has to spend nearly 3 decades on a story that can be told in under 100 chapters, and yet here we are. Forced to suffer a thousand chapters on what is essentially filler.

You know this tweet made me realise what the biggest problem with the modern OP fandom is: people just really hate sincere emotion now. If something is sad, Oda's dragging it (e.g. Kuma backstory). If it's too joyful, it's mickey (e.g. Nika Bonney). Nothing can ever be earnest.
