I know I’m beating a dead horse here but I really do not understand this retconning of Sundin as a vocal, emotional winner, other than today’s adults maybe being too young to remember that his tenure in Toronto was treated very similarly to the current crop of stars in the moment

Mats Sundin is the only man who truly knows what it takes to win in Toronto. Watching his old interviews, his answers were always flawless. He was a great leader on the ice, and he can be a great leader off the ice, I know it. There’s a lot of hate out there. As for John Chayka, he was just a kid with the Coyotes. He made mistakes. But he impressed people at a very young age, imagine what his potential is now. And guess who idolized Mats Sundin growing up… Connor McDavid. If there’s ever a chance at #97, Sundin is the guy who could make it happen. #Leafsforever

Regardless of how you feel on JC overall, why would anyone in Toronto be excited about "we're getting the salary deferral guy"? There's no cap benefit, only optics. The deals are player-unfriendly. The way Toronto already does it (front-and-bonus loaded) is almost always better.

If the thing to be excited about with the incoming Leafs regime is that they can do things that don't attract players but help the richest team in the league lower short-term spending, you may as well sell your TV because there won't be any point in watching for another decade

@Steve_Dangle Steve it also does need to be adressed right after Chayka left the Coyotes fired their head of scouting former Leafs Dir Of Scouting Lindsay Hofford as well as their entire department, Lindsay wasn’t there for 16 & 17 where he was in Toronto who missed on gems in both drafts

IMO there’s no chance Tuch makes it to FA after this magical year in BUF. So planning any roster-building around chasing him is moot.
Raddysh however, I think might.. and I’m on that train. I’d also target Ferraro & Lauzon.
