Unpopular opinion but this isn't the win everybody thinks it is. These kids have grown up with social media all their life it's part of their identity and a lot of them find an outlet online, you're basically taking it all away without providing a means to cope.
A lot of kids are neurodivergent they can't cope with social circles and end up getting bullied and ostracised. The only friends they make is online atleast until they're ready for irl you're basically leaving them alone in the dark. Kids these age are very prone to anti social behaviour if isolated.
"Just go outside" is not the solution because there are not many safe places to go outside. Any threat they faced online a worst version is waiting out there. It seems unfair and very boomer like to take their agency away even in worst case scenario the decision should be their parent's not government's.

That neighbor knew what they were doing when they called the cops over a noise complaint because someone was celebrating the Knicks winning. People know what happens when you bring cops into any situation.

No de-escalation. Nothing. The media is barely covering this. No headlines. No outrage. Like it never happened. If this was your dog... your child watching... how would you feel? Jameson deserved better. That little boy deserved better. His mama deserved better.

Extremely pleased and relieved that this Labour Gov is banning social media for under-16s. As a mum of a pre-teen, it’s the thing that keeps me up at night. I know many of my constituents feel the same. That’s why I called for a ban, and I am delighted we’re implementing one.

The people smugly gloating that young people will just have to 'find something else to do' in response to the social media bans are usually the exact same people who seethe with anger and make reports about 'loitering' whenever they have to share public spaces with teenagers.
