@KevinRickard4 I’ve replaced the guide wheels on our LG clothes dryer drum 7 times. Bad design relies on sheet metal for a brace, the wheels wear unevenly & fail. It is my personal battle vs. planned obsolescence.

@hernick_ There’s times when my wife loves my willingness and ability to fix things. But then sometimes not. Like our fridge we bought in 1995. I just keep repairing it when she wants new.

I’m building to do the most significant car repair I’ve done in years. Wife’s complete AC system. Even with buying the tools I don’t have it’s still way cheaper than the quote she got. Then sell the tools I won’t need any more and recover some of the cost.

@hernick_ My hobbies vary. We are a DIY family. Table saw, bench sander, bench router and more. Paint ceramics, kayaking photography. And then all my wife’s hobbies and tools.

@hernick_ My dad did auto repair as a side job. Rebuilt engines and all. I had to rebuild the engine on my first car

@KevinRickard4 I’m lucky enough to have a big home shop for tool storage; labor cost savings & personal satisfaction make for a good combo. Also a fan of the local pick & pulls for _some_ parts.

@hernick_ I won’t get rid of them right away. But I have limited storage and usually don’t have time to do all this stuff. But the estimate for replacing the AC was $3k. I’m saving tons on labor costs.
