Going back and reading old Overwatch fics from the 2010s is an experience. So many patterns/headcanons/tropes used to show up in fics that you just don’t see in OW fan works these days. It’s really neat to observe!

@highestnoons But there’s definitely still a lot of creativity in newer fan works too! Just gotta know where to look.
But yes, it’s quite different from how it used to be. And I do wish certain story beats had gotten more attention in the current lore. But hey, I’m still having fun!

@grovyrosegirl like people used to not mind magic hcs when it came to the shimadas or hell even cassidy when it came to deadeye but now that theres canon characters with more "magic" like abilities i have genuinely never seen such hatred for these types of hcs spawn in faster.

@grovyrosegirl Thats true! But filling in the gaps encouraged said creative freedom and more liberty with headcanons & even shipping! I've noticed an increase of people hating on fanon content now that isnt 100% canon adjacent same with ships sadly.
