So, how do you navigate a multi-layered transit hub where GPS doesn't work? 🏙️🧭 In a recent interview, Commissioner Jack Chao from the Department of Information Technology, Taipei City Government, highlighted the station as a key pilot site for the city’s AI-driven smart city strategy. 📡 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 Traditional GPS is limited to 2D positioning and struggles to function effectively in large, multi-level environments like Taipei Main Station. 📶 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Taipei adopted Wi-Fi fingerprinting, an infrastructure-free technology that calculates signal strength for positioning. We are thrilled to share that our Proof of Concept – Smart Mobility & Navigation Application, in collaboration with the Department of Transportation, Taipei City Government, was awarded an Honorable Mention at the Taipei City Government's Cross-Domain Collaboration Awards! 🏅 This award celebrates innovative cross-agency collaborations that deliver meaningful impact for citizens. In this project, the chosen demonstration sites are the Taipei Zoo Metro Station and surrounding bus stops, part of the Taipei Zoo, and the Taipei Metro management areas within the Taipei Main Station. The Zoo site is used to verify indoor and outdoor real-time transitions; the Taipei Main Station Metro site is used to verify more complex floor transitions, providing an accessible navigation solution that has gained high recognition from government units and citizens. Our solution brings these capabilities together in intuitive web and mobile apps that empower visitors to navigate with confidence. As the technology partner, Mapxus provided the core capabilities: 📍 Hardware-Free Positioning: Leveraging existing Wi-Fi and AI for a sustainable and cost-effective deployment. 🗺️ Detailed Digital Maps: Charting all essential Points of Interest (POI), including elevators, accessible restrooms, and safety equipment. 🦾 Barrier-Free Routing: Providing safe and convenient guidance via elevators and ramps for users with mobility needs.
