Demis Hassabis says we could solve all disease within a decade. So I asked the man who actually has to deliver it - Max Jaderberg, president of Isomorphic Labs - how it feels to be handed that job. 🧵 (1/4)

No matter what century, what leader and what religion they pretend to have, there is only one cultural trait that is truly russian: this. If you take away all cultures this evil stole and claimed as their own, you get only this. If you take away their lies as history, only thing they can boast is this. They have never achieved anything themselves. They can’t be redeemed. They can’t be negotiated with. We tried every peace with these barbarians. They must be stopped permanently. That’s only way humanity survives.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy / Володимир Зеленський@ZelenskyyUa

Another night has proven that Russia does not deserve any easing of global policy or lifting of sanctions. Russia is betting on war, and the response must be exactly that: we must defend lives with all available means, and we must also apply pressure for the sake of peace with the same full force. I am grateful to those in the world who work with us in this way and who help Ukraine in a timely and comprehensive manner, fully aware that every act of support truly matters for saving lives. I thank Germany, Norway, and Italy, with whom we have already reached new agreements on supporting our air defense. We are working with the Netherlands on additional supplies. In the morning, I received a report from the Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Nearly 700 Russian drones were launched over the previous day, into the evening, and throughout the night. There were also missiles – 19 ballistic ones, as well as cruise missiles during the night. Most of the ballistic missiles targeted Kyiv. 636 drones and some of the missiles were shot down. Unfortunately, not all. There were hits and damage to ordinary residential buildings. Tragically, there are fatalities in Odesa, Kyiv, and Dnipro. Among those killed is a boy – he was 12 years old. My condolences to the families and loved ones. As of now, 100 people are reported wounded as a result of this single massive Russian attack. There can be no normalization of Russia as it is today. Pressure on Russia must work. And it is important to fulfill every promise of assistance to Ukraine on time. There are many political commitments by partners that have already been announced but not yet implemented – including within the Ramstein format and on a bilateral basis. I have instructed the Commander of the Air Forces to contact those partners who earlier committed to providing missiles for Patriot and other systems. I expect a report on the results.

A special tribunal on Russia's crimes against Ukraine may start operating in the Dutch city of The Hague as early as next year. This will be the first such court since the Nuremberg Trials. The defendants will be representatives of Russia's top political and military leadership for the crime of aggression, that is, the very decision to wage war against Ukraine.

Doug Tompkins co-founded The North Face in 1966. He sold his share a few years later for $50,000. The real money came later, from a clothing brand called Esprit that he built with his first wife. He walked away from fashion in his forties and spent the rest of his life buying up wild land in South America and giving it away as national parks. He died in 2015. His kayak flipped on a freezing Chilean lake while he was paddling with friends, including Yvon Chouinard, the founder of Patagonia (the clothing company). Doug spent almost two hours in near-freezing water before he was pulled out. The hypothermia killed him. He was 72. The 800,000 hectares everyone keeps posting (about 2 million acres) is just the land Doug and his wife personally handed over. Kris took over after he died. She had been the CEO of Patagonia, the same clothing brand Yvon founded, named after the very region the couple was busy protecting. In 2018 Kris handed a million acres of their own land to the government of Chile. It is still the biggest land gift any private group has ever made to a country. Chile thanked them by upgrading nine million more acres of nearby state land to national park status. Add it all up and you get about 15 million acres now protected across Chile and Argentina. More land than all of Switzerland. Thirteen new national parks have been created, with several more expanded. A 1,700-mile road called the "Route of Parks" connects them, running from the middle of Chile down to the bottom tip of South America. More than 90% of Chile's protected land is now in Patagonia. Buying the land was just step one. They also brought in biologists to put the missing animals back. Jaguars are back in Argentina's wetlands after 70 years gone. So are giant otters, small native deer, and Andean condors (the huge South American vultures with wingspans up to 10 feet). The latest piece is being finalized this spring. Chile is about to declare Cape Froward, at the very southern tip of the continent, the country's 47th national park. The land came from another 314,000 acres (about the size of Grand Teton) that Kris's foundation transferred to the Chilean government in late 2025. Doug got the project off the ground. Kris closed the biggest pieces after he was gone. More than three decades of work, four hundred million dollars of their own money, and roughly 15 million acres now protected as national parkland.

This is untrue. Pope Benedict XVI spoke out loudly against Barack Obama’s bombing of Libya in 2011. Pope Francis implored President Obama not to get involved in the Syrian Civil War in 2013. He held a worldwide prayer vigil in an attempt to stop it.
Allie Beth Stuckey@conservmillen

Just assume that anything Barack Obama would say on issues of foreign policy, the Pope will say too. You will be less shocked when he continues to say the befuddling things he does about Islam and war.

@Euryvice The problem lies in the statement ‘America’s interests are my interests’ because for soulless psychopaths granted power, it quickly becomes ‘my interests are America’s interests’.

1. The new MAGA line on Orban—“if your entrenched ruling party can lose everything in a wave election, you are not living in an authoritarian state”—is fallacious, and something they plainly don’t believe. Unless maybe they’re prepared to abide Trump-style abuses turned on them.

A nuisance influencer travels to foreign countries, deliberately provokes strangers and causes public disturbances, then streams it live. The more outraged the reaction the better the content. The chaos is the product. And one of them known as Johnny Somali, just found out that actions have consequences. It started in Japan in 2023. He played racist songs on trains, made vulgar comments to strangers and disrupted businesses. He was arrested, fined and left the country. Next came Israel. He harassed a female police officer, attached offensive images to the Western Wall and was detained for sixteen minutes before being released. He left the country. Then South Korea. He blasted North Korean propaganda on the Seoul subway. He caused chaos in convenience stores and blocked passengers at a theme park. He carried a bag of rotten fish through the streets. Then he visited the Statue of Peace, a memorial honoring Korean women systematically enslaved by Japanese soldiers during World War II, and performed a lewd dance against it on camera. South Korea erupted. Parliament took notice. A former Navy SEAL tracked him down and knocked him unconscious. Bounties were placed on his location. He was arrested and charged with eight counts. At his first court appearance he showed up late and hungover wearing a MAGA hat. Today a Seoul court found him guilty on every single charge. Six months hard labor. Deported on release. Permanently banned. No phone. No internet. No audience.

This deserves much more attention. Hungary’s incoming PM just admitted on the record that Viktor Orbán used Hungarian government funds to finance CPAC. His exact words: “I believe the state should never have financed them in the first place, it was a crime.” He is opening a criminal probe in Hungary. This demands a parallel investigation here. Federal law bars any foreign national, including a foreign government, from directly or indirectly giving money or anything of value in connection with a U.S. election. It also bars any American from soliciting or accepting it. CPAC is the flagship networking event for Republican candidates, members of Congress, and the conservative political operation. Money flowing from a foreign government into that ecosystem is exactly what the statute was written to stop. We need answers. How much did Orbán’s government send? Who received it? What was it spent on? Did any of it underwrite electioneering, candidate travel, or political messaging in the United States? Congress should demand records. The FEC and DOJ should open formal investigations. CPAC should disclose every dollar received from any Hungarian government entity or state-linked institution. Foreign governments do not get to buy influence in American elections. Not from the left. Not from the right. Not ever. msn.com/en-us/news/pol…
