I like using Claude Code for many tasks, but I feel Gemini has been giving me better results for SQL queries, particularly for BigQuery. Maybe Gemini has better knowledge there, which would not be surprising.

@rohindhar I personally like Email Octopus. Friendly and focused company. They have a lot of power features too if you need it.

What newsletter / email marketing software do folks like? Need something to use for my new San Francisco Real Estate newsletter Ones I’ve been considering: ConvertKit Beehiv Mailchimp Squarespace Basically will just be posting interesting houses for sale, notes about the San Francisco market Geared towards folks buying a home in San Francisco (and investors a little) that might consider using my real estate agent business one day Don’t need all the tools of trying to sell digital goods or upselling subscriptions. Don’t want the costs to spiral out of control I have a subscription to ActivePipe through my brokerage, which i’m considering but it’s the opposite of lightweight. Even getting a single email uploaded in the system is an ordeal Any suggestions?

@BetterRetail @kurtinc I also typically recommend turning on the BigQuery link to get raw data and store it permanently. Then you can roll your own reports.

@kurtinc I felt the same but after a training session from Michael Whitaker (@monitus) I changed my thinking. Michael built for me all the reports I need.

GA4 so much more painful to use than UA, right? It's bad to the point that I've been avoiding it and using Shopify Analytics instead whenever possible. I can't be the only one looking for other options. Are there any worthwhile alternatives to Google Analytics?

No pagination in #GA4 explorations? Explorations are the only way to do proper segmentation, but you won't be able see more than 500 rows

Explorations in Google Analytics 4 not working right now. Anyone else?

Even if no data will be processed when GA UA shuts down, will this still be the case: "If you have an existing configuration in the Google tag for your Universal Analytics property, it will be applied to your Google Analytics 4 property as well." support.google.com/analytics/answ…

...and that's all there is to it. This can help the LLM navigate unruly queries and is more interpretable for the reader. There is also ongoing work to implement zero-shot CoT for SQL in @langchain. Exciting times! (4/4)

Want to implement chain-of-thought reasoning in your text-to-SQL tool to help guide the SQL query generation? One way is to provide few-shot examples demonstrating CoT. @langchain makes this a piece of cake. (1/4)

One of the key ideas is analytics is "segment or die" and that data in aggregate is not good enough. Boy don't they keep segmentation hidden in GA4. Can't apply segments to main reports and missing in API too. I guess everyone using BigQuery instead?

@AdiPolak Looks interesting! Trying out the lakeFS playground, which has some parquet files. Are there any setup steps to do as I just get "This file type isn't supported for viewing"?

Quite impressed with my kid’s programming class. First order of business is to set up a Google Cloud project and create a http cloud function. There must be a gazillion “hello world” end points out there!

@moseskagan Allowable rent increase in Oakland is 6.7% in July. Look out for emergency law to trim that at the last minute.

Incidentally, bc: - CPI includes rent growth & - Rents & incomes are in a circular relationship Worried the solution to inflation may need to be the spread of rent controls w sub-CPI maximum increases.

Useful lens for national rental housing: Before / during GFC, coastal owners had proven tenants would pay 30-40% of income as rent. But rest of the country was running lower than that… was slack in the system. Over last ~10 years, owners in those other mkts took up the slack.

Very satisfying to be able to reproduce a report by the US census bureau from raw data. ⁦@observablehq⁩ is an amazing tool. @monitus/us-counties-population-change-2021" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">observablehq.com/@monitus/us-co…

Trying out Vertex AI. Watch out for cost. Trained a model and it seems to run the full node-hours you specify. I assumed it would run a fraction of that since I used a small toy dataset. Ain't cheap if you just want to muck around and get into machine learning.
