While most eyes are looking towards Strategy tokens, and taking a brief rest from posting about @OnChainAllStars, I wanted to make a post about a collection that I took a deep dive into recently. As many of you know, I'm a sucker for traits and rarity. When I thought I'd discovered hidden rarity/traits not listed on market places for this collection, I decided to go in head first. Decal by @XCOPYART Released in partnership with @0xDecaArt, Nov 2022. The artwork is XCOPY’s interpretation of the Deca logo. This was season 10 of the Decals series. The art feels like it sits somewhere between the more classic look of Grifters/Max Pain, and the modern style we see in likes of Damage Control and Remnants. The collection is 100x ERC-721 tokens. Token IDs 0-99. At first glance, it seems straightforward: - 10 different art variants - each with different eyes and colour pattern - 10 editions each variant - 1/10/100 structure But there is more to this… Looking closer, we discover that every Decal is actually unique. This is achieved by the Bubble Patterns that X used on each Decal. After realising that there were many different bubble patterns, and to XCOPY’s amusement, I decided to head down the rabbit hole and manually count the bubbles on every Decal to try and establish if there is some hidden rarity and if actually, this might be the most undervalued collection by XCOPY. What I found: There are 30 different bubble patterns used across the 100 tokens in the collection. Here’s how often each pattern appears in the collection. For simplicity They are pattern #1-#30: Used 1 time: #3, #9, #10, #22, #26 Used 2 times: #5, #7, #8, #16, #17, #19, #29 Used 3 times: #1, #13, #15, #20, #28 Used 4 times: #6, #11, #12, #14, #23, #25 Used 5 times: #21, #24, #27, #30 Used 6 times: #2, #18 Used 10 times: #4 The instant jump out is that the rarest bubble patterns are: #3, #9, #10, #22, #26 which are used only once. Pattern #4 is the most common, appearing 10 times. However, Token #17 uses Pattern #4, but with a hidden bubble. This arguably makes that a unique bubble pattern in disguise. Variants are 0-9 and are actual traits. But you can learn these very quickly for every token. For example: Token #0 uses variant 0 Token #8 uses variant 8 Token #23 uses variant 3 Token #56 uses variant 6 Token #98 uses variant 8 So, the last number of the token ID is the art variant being used. I hope this makes sense to some of your out there! And maybe you will see this collection very differently now. Keep in mind this is all my own research.
