@Ike_Saul @benbanyas If you want that cleanup done, want it done right not recklessly like other DOGE work. As you note yourself, they've earned your distrust so why believe this? I'm just not sure it makes any sense to declare this "good DOGE" based on the idea that government DBs need cleanup.

@benbanyas I think if you're starting from the point "there is no good DOGE" then yeah, you're always gonna land there. Few people have been more critical of them than me, but there is zero debate about how completely and utterly fucked our govt databases are.

This is good DOGE. Clean the data bases. Just do it without claiming we're sending trillions fraudulently to a bunch of people!

Wherein the richest man in the world, while busy trying to dismantle the US Government, doesn't seem to care that what he's saying is demonstrably false at almost every level.

There's so much lunacy that this might not even rate much attention, the idea that only one branch, and only two people, one of whom is pretty unhinged, can say what the law is.

But it's that section 5F that seems to show what's up.

The document, does, to be fair, include reference to increased access that could alleviate poverty and pays passing attention to noise, water pollution, and soil contamination, though the standard may be different or changing in regulatory terms.

Section 5F of "Ensuring Reliance Upon Sound Economic Analysis" in Dept of Transportation Activities requires: prioritizing user-pay models; preferencing communities with higher marriage and birth rates; prohibiting vaccine and mask mandates; requiring compliance with Immigration.

Do I have this right? They moved DOGE under the PRA, shielding it from FOIA and various publication requirements, and the PRA enables them to destroy records if approved by the Archivist, whom last week they fired?

@macbunnie @Ike_Saul I'm not arguing against rooting out waste. It honestly wouldn't be that hard to find someone committed to working in a responsible, non-partisan, methodical way, with appropriate transparency and oversight. And without conflicts that further question the integrity of the process.

These are sincere questions, and I promise to reply with a rational response if one is called for. Whom would you choose and trust to conduct the same work? Do you honestly believe that continuing the status quo because something “might not” be done well or perfectly is a better option?

I'm very curious to see what the long-term result of DOGE is, and how much wasteful/forgotten spending they uncover. But I'm also not gonna be a rube and believe everything they say just bc they tweeted it. Here are some rules of engagement: 1. Don't take their reported cuts and numbers at face value. Do your best to cross-check. Have some skepticism. 2. Every cut program isn't a win! I live in Philly. If they cut $2 million of funding for some "DEI program" here that was building an outdoor play space in a majority-black neighborhood, that would be bad! I want more kids outside playing and off their phones, and I'm okay if a quarter cent of my tax dollars is supporting that! 3. Not everything is as good as it sounds. For example: 20,000 fed workers are said to have taken the buyout. That's 1% of the workforce. But 6% of the fed workforce churned in 2021 voluntarily. How many people did DOGE just give 8 months of severance to who were about to quit or retire anyway? How many great fed employees took the offer cause they can get good jobs elsewhere, and how many mediocre employees are hanging onto their job? Might not be great! 4. Don't get caught up in the day to day. Let's check the numbers month over month and year over year. A few cut contracts today could turn into SpaceX contracts in a month and be a total wash. 5. Celebrate obvious wins - our govt can be very wasteful and fraud-ridden and it's good to shed light on this!

So much chaos and awfulness right now that stuff like this might pass under the radar, but it shouldn’t. This is terrifying, the idea that Musk is demanding and getting access like this.

There is no bottom. This is exactly on brand. This is not leadership.

Every member of the government body that is supposed to have the Power of the Purse represents people who will be directly harmed by the Executive branch's actions to stop government spending on programs designed to help. You have to wonder what they really want to accomplish.

Now he's pardoned people who committed crimes blocking access to abortion services. They've always believed the ends justify the means if and only if it is their ends. These and the 1/6 pardons are just a result of that belief taken to an unacceptable, unAmerican extreme.
