A little rant as I lie in bed and attempt to fall asleep. I know I have lost weight these last few months and I know everyone who mentions it to me is saying so in good spirits but body image and body dysmorphia mixed with decades of disordered eating and being a public figure make it a lot more complex than just saying “have you lost weight? You look amazing” I’ve spoken publicly about this before but definitely not in a hot minute. When I was 17 I developed my first eating disorder anorexia when I simply stopped eating and in the recovery of it I developed bulimia and abused many things to purge and this slowly but surely turned into decades of binge eating disorder. I only truly developed a healthy relationship with my body and food when I moved to America and a lot of the things I used to be able to control were no longer in my control and I let my body heal and find its natural weight. Over the last two years I’ve experienced some incredibly traumatic life changing things and the stress and uncertainty of nothing in my life feeling permanent likely became visible on me physically. There’s a lot of little bits and pieces that go into why I feel more stable now and have had time to focus on **me** and prioritising what makes **me** feel good about myself BUT the bottom line is the weight loss was for ME. Not to get a job, not to make someone love me, not even because I take photos in lingerie regularly (truly think I make more money the thicccccker I am) HOWEVER when people talk to me about my weight loss it triggers the disordered eating birdie in my brain that tells me no one will ever like you unless you keep shrinking yourself which the logical me knows factually is incorrect but it still creates a trigger. So the point of this post is either way unless someone I think asks you your opinion on their body changes in anyway it’s best to not acknowledge because you never know what is going on behind all that and what their brain is telling them and I am too god damn old to be shrinking myself for other people. I’m very sad to hear of the passing of Dave, Ragnor The Viking (original) who was a wrestler from England. Dave wrestled around the world and ended up as a busker living and street performing in Germany. When I was a child my Dad took me to Blackpool and we walked round off the sea front into the Pleasure Beach. Dave was stood there with his Axe and Abe Ginsburg was on the mike spieling for challenges to wrestle Dave in the last “Carnival” wrestling booth in the UK where they took on challengers from the public and was where I started my life in Wrestling when I was 15. I was about 7 or 8 and I was scared to death as I thought Abe was trying to get my Dad to fight Dave. My Dad took me inside to watch the show. From the second the show started I knew I wanted to be a wrestler and live in Blackpool and work at the Wrestling booth at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. That was my dream. Really, all the rest that’s happened to me has been a bonus. I only spent one week with Dave when I was 17. I think he’d just come back from Calgary and worked for Bobby Barron, the promoter from Blackpool who started my career for the one week and I’m sure he said he was going to Austria or Germany soon. I wrestled him on all of Bobs shows that week. The only other time I saw him I was with Dave Taylor who had been all over the world with Dave The Viking and we saw him busking in Germany and we had a chat for a while and never saw him again. He was very nice to me that week when I was 17 and I remember that well because very few others were at that time. Seeing Dave stood their with his Viking helmet and overly large axe stood outside The Horseshoe Showbar and watching British Wrestling on TV at 4 o’clock every Saturday on ITV started this charmed life I’ve had. Rest well.x
