Autistic people are far more likely to be unemployed, underemployed, underpaid, or pushed out of jobs that don't support their needs. Despite this, most autistic adults who aren't working want the opportunity to work and contribute a lot to societies.
The problem isn't a lack of motivation or ability. It's that many workplaces still aren't designed for autistic people to succeed. Hiring processes often reward social performance over actual skills, and many autistic employees face barriers, misunderstandings, or discrimination long after they're hired.
And it's important to remember that not every autistic person is able to work and that's completely valid too.
This isn't a willingness problem.
It's an accessibility problem.
