Quale onore! Grande Dario!

”Show me the incentive,” Charlie Munger once said, “and I will show you the outcome.” For decades, UK financial advisers were paid commissions by fund management companies to put their clients in actively managed funds, even though the vast majority underperformed low-cost index trackers. Only a small proportion of advisers recommended index funds. Then, in 2013, @TheFCA banned commissions, and new research from @Broadridge Financial Services shows that, over the last decade, 92% of new money invested has gone into index funds. In most of continental Europe, however, commissions remain in place, and, yup, active funds continue to reign supreme. In Luxembourg, 89 percent of the new money invested in the last ten years has been pumped into active funds. The UK has still not eradicated kickbacks altogether. Vertically integrated advice firms use targets and bonuses to incentivise advisers to recommend in-house active funds charging higher fees. But, for all the criticism levelled at the FCA, including from me, our regulator does deserve some credit for the progress made. It’s time for other European regulators to follow the UK’s lead. 👉 shorturl.at/23FiH

@bankeronwheels Makes sense, but there must be a kind of break even point in the future (function of TER difference and cost basis) such that changing is worthwhile. Maybe that's a nice territory to explore

Thank you for the kind words @retireinprogres! 😊 We added a sentence to make it explicit. Given the bull market we experienced most investors are sitting on (sometimes substantial) gains. Capital gains taxes make it often prohibitive to switch (except in the case of tax wrappers with low transaction costs)

@bankeronwheels @NProtasoni First, I think the article (along with the entire BoW website) is awesome. Thanks for the amazing content. Second, yes, I was surprised that no mention to switch has been made. Is the reason "investors never switch"? Really? Just curious

Fa riflettere. #educazionefinanziaria Fonte: Oecd

Grazie.
