Three thoughts this morning: 1) Putin’s invasion of Ukraine last year will go down in history as one of the biggest fuckups & biggest miscalculations ever made by a major figure on the world’s stage. 2) Joe Biden’s response to Putin’s invasion, Biden’s strong defense of Ukraine, and Biden’s leadership in assembling a unified worldwide coalition to stand WITH Ukraine and stand AGAINST Russia will go down in history as one of the greatest defenses of freedom & sovereignty ever put together on the world’s stage. 3) The world is so fortunate Trump lost in 2020.

As some of you may have already heard, the Texas House today voted 121 to 23 to impeach Ken Paxton, the Attorney General of the State of Texas (2 members voted PNV and 3 were absent). After reviewing the charges, rebuttals by Paxton and considering both the legal and ethical responsibilities of the house, I voted to impeach. As a friend and past supporter of Ken Paxton, it really did sadden me to have to vote to impeach, but given the overwhelming evidence of abuse of power by the AG, I truly felt like I had no choice.   To provide context, I have known Ken Paxton for over 10 years.  I originally supported him enthusiastically and think that he has done many great things to support and advance conservative policies during his time as the Texas AG.  Unfortunately, I have also watched a man compromise his principals on both a personal and professional level that have accelerated as his tenure in his office has continued.   The actions of Ken Paxton show a man who has clearly used the power and resources of the office of AG to protect himself from criminal prosecution and more recently to protect and/or enrich his personal benefactors.  I don't see how anyone who takes the time to read the evidence against the AG can arrive at any other conclusion than impeachment. That being said, I absolutely agree with those who were frustrated about the very abbreviated timeframe that was used for the impeachment process.  We can and must do better in the future. In fact, virtually every member that voted against impeachment actually spoke and voted against the process of impeachment, not in defense of the AG’s actions. While this was a solemn vote, I hope it is a reminder to all that no one should be above the law - especially not the chief law enforcement officer of the state. #txlege
