He approached and we locked eyes, he looked manic and dangerous. Casually, I took a drag from my cigarette, lowered my gaze, and said “basta” then shoo’d him away absentmindedly as if he were a hired hand who I had no more use for. He was thunderstruck. He stood there stupidly in silence for a moment, then shambled off in a daze, only finally snapping out of it to harass a woman pushing a baby in a stroller. No matter to me. I turned my attention back to my book and espresso. My cravat looked exquisite.
