@eighteenholes18 Granted, the ball IS embedded in its own pitch-mark…but it was not the result of the previous stroke. No free relief.

Now on the 14th hole (“Chinese Fir”), only a few holes remaining in the Masters. Juno hits a towering tee shot down the left, despite soggy conditions after the rain delay. Her balls comes to rest on a sprinkler head in the fairway, from which she properly takes free relief, dropping the ball a couple of feet away. However, on landing on the wet ground, the ball plugs, embedding itself slightly below the surface. No temporary water is present. Again, Juno calls you over for a ruling (you’ve had a busy few holes…😁)

ANSWER: Correct the mistake by re-dropping Looking at Clarification 17.1d(3)/2, as the original ball was found IN THE PENALTY AREA (“in the water”), Sutton must correct the error and drop again using the found original ball to determine the reference point. She would not be allowed to play the original ball. Had the ball been found OUTSIDE the penalty area, she would play the dropped ball, since there may not even be a “point where the ball last crossed the edge of the penalty area” anymore #17_1d_3_2" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">randa.org/rog/clarificat…

Now on the infamous 12th hole, Sutton hits a weak tee shot that ends up in Rae’s Creek. To her best judgment, she determines the point where her ball last crossed the penalty area, and properly takes back-on-the-line relief. Before making her next stroke, Juno sees Sutton’s original ball in the water 15 feet left of where Sutton thought it entered the penalty area - completely changing Sutton’s angle of play. Juno calls you over as the referee…

Now playing the 13th hole, Sutton hits an aggressive tee shot but slightly overcooks it into the tributary, a red penalty area. Properly taking lateral relief, she makes a practice swing which accidentally moves her ball. Not sure what to do, she plays from this new location and miraculously holes out her approach!! What was her score?
