It’s so sad to hear about Quincy Jones. When he signed us to his label, he made us feel so welcome - inviting us to dinner at his home every time we were in town. He made us big in America. He was so humble & sweet that you immediately fell in love with him.

Quincy had a relationship with my mother, Coretta Scott King, and my brother, Dexter, supporting our family’s work and embodying the values we hold dear. Not only was he a major supporter of my father’s work with Operation Breadbasket, promoting economic empowerment in Black communities, but his commitment to civil rights endured well beyond Dr. King’s passing. Beyond his activism, Quincy was a musical genius—an icon whose artistry has shaped the soundtrack of generations. With 79 Grammy nominations, his influence is unmatched, and his leadership in global movements like “We Are the World” highlights his deep compassion and commitment to humanity. In 2010, The King Center awarded Quincy the Salute to Greatness Award, recognizing not only his legacy in music but also his tireless humanitarian efforts.
